Bonifacio High Street

There was a time when “Fort Bonifacio” is mentioned the only thing that comes to mind is a military camp. It is a camp full of soldiers in uniform complete with guns, bullets, military tanks, and anything related to the military. It is home of the Philippine Army. It is a headquarters of those men in uniform who swore to defend the country.  Fort Bonifacio means soldiers and the military.

Today however Fort Bonifacio relates to high-rise offices, upscale residential condominiums and trendy restaurants, bars and retail outlets.  And just across the “Market Market Mall” is “Bonifacio High Street” where everything is high-end.

In the afternoon, after going around Market Market Mall, we would usually cross the street and take a stroll at Bonifacio High Street.  I would often visit the “Fully Booked” Bookstore.  There are hundreds of books to choose from. Some books that cannot be found in other bookstores miraculously resurrect here.  In this four-level bookstore, I can enjoy my favorite Mocha Frappuccino at Starbucks on the third floor while reading my favorite book.

In the middle of this street lies a patch of green where you can just sit down, relax and enjoy the rest of the afternoon. Often, I see dog owners parading their imported pets. It is nice to see different breeds of dogs strolling along with their owners. Perhaps, this is already a trend among those in the higher class.

Bonifacio High Street has lots of expensive and classy residential condominiums.  Some are still under construction but most are already occupied. I think it is only the well off that can afford these condominiums. Sometimes it is good to imagine how it is to live in these condos...
