Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center
Amidst the urban landscape
that is Quezon City is a refuge for animals and birds known as the “Ninoy
Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center”. It is just a few blocks from the Quezon
Memorial Circle and a ride away from the gigantic malls of Trinoma and SM
North.
It is often a surprise to
find out that there is such quiet place in this area. The lush vegetation and tall
trees give a non-stressful ambiance. A walk in this park instantly brings back
those that were lost in an urban landscape.
I sometimes crave for simplicity.
After all the rush and the difficulty of complying with timelines, it feels
rejuvenating to feel and see a lot of greens. The wide and open spaces of this
park immediately relaxes ones mind and body. Metro Manila is not cramped after
all! There is nearby escape from city life.
Ninoy Aquino Parks and
Wildlife Center functions as a temporary shelter for various species of animals
and different varieties of birds. Visitors can see them up close. There is the
rare blue naped parrot. How I wish I would have the opportunity to see them in
the wild. It is said that these parrots are fast disappearing in the forests.
The destruction of their natural habitat has drastically reduced their numbers.
I really consider it a privilege to see these parrots alive and well here.
The first time I saw the
Philippine National Eagle was in Davao City. Here you can see and observe the
Philippine’s National Bird. The Philippine Eagle is also on the endangered
list. Its habitat is also slowly being destroyed. The destruction of the
environment is slowly driving this majestic bird into extinction. I hope that the Philippine Eagle makes it to
the next century.
There is a beautiful lagoon
at this park. The lagoon provides a very nice backdrop while contemplating on
things serious and simple. Thought seems to fly as one looks into the lagoon to
understand the intricacies of the world. It is a very quite place to forget the
rush of things within the urbanized world of Quezon City. Please keep this park free from all forms of garbage!
