This is where everything started. But, with the passing of time and all the development that took place, it is very difficult to imagine how this place looked like. Preserving and protecting historical sites in the Philippines is a very challenging endeavor. The government cannot do it on its own. The private sector has to fully cooperate with the government's initiative in protecting historical places. As individuals, we can make a significant contribution by simply putting our trash in garbage bins.

Visiting historical places such as the "Cry of Pugad Lawin Shrine" is foremost educational. It gives us a realistic idea of what we read in textbooks. It gives life to the pages of history books.  A historical monument is a piece of evidence that what is written in books actually happened. The learning experience is extraordinary. Something that cannot be experienced by just reading about it.

To visit a historical place is the closest thing to "time travel". The moment you set foot in this shrine, you are technically part of that important moment in history. Time is reduced into a mere concept that separates you from what transpired years ago. When in Pugad Lawin Shrine, take a moment to feel the emotion and hear the loud cries that ushered us to revolt against the Spanish empire.

The Cry of Pugad Lawin is significant in the context of Philippine history. The passing of time has not, in any way, diminished its importance to us and to our posterity. We got to give this place the recognition it deserves by protecting and preserving it. It is indeed lamentable that despite the importance of the Cry of Pugad Lawin in Philippine history, this shrine looks like what you do not expect it to be.
