How To Be A CEO

This is a must-read for those who want to earn that much-coveted title of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and that is Sharon Voros' "The Road To CEO". In her book, leading executive recruiters identified the various traits they consider that is necessary for one to be considered to the CEO Position.

After reading this book, you will learn that a great resume is just the beginning. There is a lot of package of intangibles that qualify someone to be a CEO  such as leadership presence which is composed of passion, social poise, energy, communication skills and appearance.

The discussion on what "leadership presence" is worth the time to read and understand. To top recruiters, it is "the single most important factor in your ability to become a top executive." However, leadership presence, just like pornography, is hard to define, "but clients, customers, employees, and others, 'know it, when they see it.'"

The good news is this  "presence", according to the book, is more than physical - you don't have to be tall, dark and handsome to have it. Confidence, energy, level of communication skills are essential. "Managers with presence assert themselves, offer a hand first, ask questions and appear interested."

I really had fun reading this book. It reveals how appearance plays a great role in the determination of recruiters whether or not a person is fit for the CEO position.

"Appearances are only skin deep. But if you don't look the part, you won't make it to second base."

Grab a copy of this book and you would enjoy reading accounts on how several candidates for the CEO position failed to make it simply because they do not look the part. More importantly, this book will guide you on the essentials necessary to be a CEO
