How To Improve Your Chess

Chess is a game that is easy to learn but difficult to master.  It is for this reason that chess is a very addictive game. Once you get to understand how the pieces move and after surviving your first game, chess will be part of your system. It's a whole lot of fun to play chess. It will be very difficult to say "no" to a game of chess.




While chess may be easy to learn, mastering it requires a vast amount of time. One author said that in order to attain mastery of anything, it requires 10,000 hours. Most of us do not have that much time to devote or to spend for the sake of mastering chess.

If we cannot "master" chess, at least, we can improve the way we play the game. There is always room for improvement. There are ways to improve our handling of the opening, middlegame and the endgame. There are countless books written about the game of chess. Some of the books focus on a particular phase of the game such as the opening and the endgame. Reading this kind of books on a regular basis can help in improving your chess.

But there is a better and fun way to improve the way you play chess. Solving tactical problems is one sure way of improving your chess ability. Spend at least fifteen (15) minutes a day in solving tactical exercises and it will improve your tactical alertness even in a game with very little time on the clock. It will also give you the opportunity to gain more confidence in playing chess.
