I never thought that this could happen. I never imagined that malls will be closed, people would be required to stay at home, and that being close to someone literally is a risk. Who had ever imagined that a pandemic of this magnitude will occur? Who had ever imagined that the mere shaking of hands can have unhealthy consequences?
Now that social or physical distancing is a must and maybe the "new normal", the future of chess is definitely online. Chess tournaments where players meet on the chessboard, shake each other's hand and touch pieces is a health risk given the Covid-19 infection. The risk of getting infected can be avoided if chess tournaments are played online. With the help of the internet, chess players can stay home while pushing pawns and pieces.
