Warren Buffet Plays Chess

My time is usually spent playing chess online (either on chess.com or lichess.org), reading and biking. There are deviations from my routine like doing the necessaries and other usual stuff.

What I have been reading lately are business books. Currently, I am reading the book by Alice Schroeder - "The Snowball Warren Buffet and the Business of Life". The book is a good and entertaining read. It gives a fascinating insight into the life of one of the world's most admired investor and billionaire - Warren Buffet. I am just halfway through but I already learned a lot about the man and gained very valuable information on stocks and investing.

What I found very interesting is that Warren Buffet plays chess. There is this part of the book about Buffet being competitive at playing chess found in Chapter 34 (Candy Harry)  -

"Yet even after this encounter with his own mortality, he remained as fixated on business as ever. Retirement, in Buffet's special sense, meant to longer acting as a fiduciary. He would be investing as long as he was breathing. He could not help but be competitive - so much so that recently, when six-year-old Jonathan Brandt, son of his friends Henry and Roxanne Brandt, had taken him on in chess, Warren couldn't bear it when it looked as though he was losing. As the game neared its conclusion, he began Buffetting little Jonny until he won."

Chess really is a very beautiful and competitive game. It has that kind of unique allure that appeals to everyone. Once you started playing chess, there is no way of never picking up that pawn again or at this time, logging in to an online chess website. Chess provides that kind of "challenge" that stimulates beyond what other online games offer.

During this time of a worldwide pandemic, chess
gives you the means, through the internet, to play and interact against any player in the world in real-time. In the comfort and safety of your own home, you can play chess, enjoy and reap the benefits of playing the game at your own place and pace. The internet has removed all known boundaries in playing chess. You can learn to play chess by just watching videos of chess masters. Chess knowledge is widely available on the internet. Indeed, the future of chess is online.
