Commuting in the Philippines

I often see a number of commuters waiting for a ride to their destination whenever I bike along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City. Commuters desperate for a ride have become a familiar sight after the easing of pandemic restrictions. The MRT being constructed offers a ray of hope to all these commuters.

Commuting in the Philippines is like being on a battlefield. Patience and being aggressive are necessary to get that valuable ride. You must possess the skill and agility of an athlete. The ability to wait like a trained Sniper will prove a very valuable trait on the line that seems without an end.

This makes ¨biking to work” an excellent alternative to commuting. Instead of endless wait, why not ride a bicycle to work? Of course, riding a bicycle to work is not for everyone. There are risks in biking to work. There are also other reasons, why some cannot ride a bicycle to work. But imagine what happens if a majority of the able-bodied commuters bike to work. The problem of traffic would be lessened in an instant.

Prices of gasoline and diesel have gone up astronomically. If we take into account what is happening in Ukraine, a significant rollback in the price of gasoline cannot be expected in the near future. This is another reason to consider biking to work.
