Sooley by John Grisham
I have read a lot of John Grisham novels. I like the way the story is presented in mostly short sentences and in words that are easy to comprehend. It is very easy to grasp the story and have an idea of what is happening among the characters in the novel. This makes it very difficult to put a John Grisham novel down once you started reading.
The story of Sooley is typical. A young and talented player from a third-world country was recruited in America to play basketball. Life is going the way Sooley dreamed and more of it. But, when the dream is already within reach, the unexpected happens. It is not entirely Sooley’s fault. Murray, his friend is not to blame. In this kind of situation, no one else can be blamed. Blaming will not change anything.
This is a work of fiction with many people can relate to. The story seemed real as it can be. Life in a country with a raging civil war. The competition within and outside the basketball court. The legal complexities involving immigration. How is it to lose a loved one? Grisham´s novel is definitely a good read.
