Why Studying in Canada is a Good Move

I arrived in Canada in August 2022. At the time I am writing this, it has been a year since I took the big leap of leaving my stable job to study in Canada as an international student.

After a year, I am thinking of whether I have made the correct decision to leave my home country and pursue further studies in Canada.

For foreign students who are thinking of studying in Canada, I am asking for a list of some of the reasons why I think that studying in Canada is worth it. Some of the reasons I have may be personal or based on my subjective evaluation. However, these are some of the reasons why I consider studying in Canada to be a good move or why you should seriously consider making that leap of faith to study in a foreign country.

There are several prestigious colleges and universities in Canada.

Several colleges and universities in Canada are considered worldwide as prestigious colleges and universities. In world rankings, you can always see the list of colleges and universities in Canada. The University of Toronto is within the top 50 in “Best Global Universities” based on performance. Aside from the U of T, there are other colleges and universities in Canada listed in the global rankings.

The chance and opportunity to be educated in a globally recognized learning institution is perhaps the best reason for you to study in Canada. Compared to other universities in Europe, colleges and universities in Canada are relatively affordable. Education is an investment that is always worth it in the end. If given the chance, do not forego to study. If you can, seriously consider studying in one of the colleges and universities in Canada.

By studying in Canada, you will also experience the country's beautiful environment.

What I observed in Canada is that it protects wildlife and nature. The natural environment in Canada is very beneficial for your physical and mental health. The University of Toronto at Scarborough is located near parks such as Morningside Park, Col Danforth Park, and various parks located on the Waterfront Trail. If you study in Canada, you can enjoy the beauty of these parks and the natural environment.

In Morningside Park, you can see wildlife such as deer, raccoons, and squirrels. In the morning, you can walk in this park and enjoy the cool breeze. The best time to walk in parks is during autumn or fall when the color of the leaves changes into stunning colors. During autumn, the leaves of the trees change into various shades of green, red, and purple. I have experienced walking in Col Danforth Park where the leaves of the trees are in their best colors.

If you study in Canada, you get to experience the four seasons.

For those who live in tropical countries like the Philippines, studying in Canada would also give you the chance to experience the four seasons - winter, spring, summer, and fall or autumn. In the Philippines, there are only two (2) seasons - wet and dry.

When I arrived in Canada in August 2022, the summer season was about to end. I can already feel the cool breeze. The air was fresh. Everything was new. Since it was still the summer season, I can still feel the warmth in the air. But the air was way a lot cooler compared to tropical countries.

Sometime in October to November, I can see that leaves on the trees began to change colors. The air is getting colder. More people are wearing jackets on the streets. The spectacle of colors on the surroundings is becoming more evident. Leaves are in the hues of green and red. The scenery during the autumn season is spectacular. I like to walk in parks and see the captivating colors of autumn.

After autumn comes winter. During the winter season comes the snow. I still recall my first snow experience when I was excited to see snow. Snow was like ice on a freezer. During the winter, I understood what it means by the term “biting cold”. When they say it is cold in Canada, it is really cold.

The good thing is that during winter, snow falls only for several days. Winter does not necessarily mean that there will be snow on the streets for months. Snow was exciting during the first few days. But after some time, you would wish for the weather to get warm.

Winter is not at all gloomy. There are several activities you can experience during the winter season. The snow that covers the area creates a very enigmatic scenery you will never experience if you live in a tropical country.

During the spring season, leaves, and everything goes back to life. Plants and trees began to wake up from their sleep. When I walk in parks, I can see more animals. Rabbits, Squirrels, Raccoons, and Chipmunks can be seen scurrying away from place to place.

If you study in Canada, experiencing the four seasons is an experience that you will cherish for a lifetime.

Studying in Canada means being immersed in different cultures

If you study in Canada, you will be immersed in different cultures. Canada is a land of migrants. There are people from different countries who will be your classmates and friends. You will hear, if not learn, different languages. You will be able to listen to the various opinions, comments, and views of your classmates. You will also learn about their culture and traditions.

If you study in Toronto, Canada, there are several museums and other historical places that you can visit such as the Royal Ontario Museum and the Art Gallery of Ontario. You can also visit the Distillery District - a historical district with a collection of Victorian historical buildings. While visiting the Distillery, you can also shop and dine at the same time.

The opportunity to learn and be immersed in various cultures is one good reason for you to study in Canada. It will broaden your view of life. You will have a bigger understanding of the world and the people of different countries. You will appreciate the various stages of history and the development of society.

Studying in Canada means the opportunity of traveling to different parts of the country.

Canada is a very large country. Canada is the second largest country in the world. If you study in Canada, you get the chance and opportunity to see beautiful places. This vast county has several things to offer. You will always find something new to discover.

While Canada is a big country, there are fewer people. The population in Canada is low despite its large size. There is less overcrowding. I immediately noticed this when I took public transportation as I traveled in Toronto. Even during rush hours, the number of people on the bus and the subway is somehow manageable. But of course, there would be some occasions when there are a large number of people on the bus and subways. Yet, the situation is more comfortable compared to what I have experienced back home.

Studying in Canada allows you to permanently live in a first-world country

Canada is a first-world country. If you study in Canada, you will experience the convenience, benefits, and challenges of living in a first-world country. The experience of living in a first-world country such as Canada is very different from other countries

In Canada, there is a very convenient and reliable transport system. In so far as my experience is concerned, traveling in Canada, particularly in Toronto is very convenient. There is less traffic and riding in buses and subways usually arrive on schedule. You can be sure to reach your destination at the estimated time. The bus and subway are fairly safe but you must always be careful. There were reported untoward and unfavorable incidents that happened in subways. But, these incidents may be considered isolated and preventable in the future.

If you study in Canada, you will have a chance to be a Permanent Resident. Becoming a Permanent Resident or “PR” is said to be the first step to becoming a Canadian Citizen.

Studying in Canada is one of the more popular pathways for you to be a permanent resident. Thereafter, you can apply to become a Canadian Citizen. An immigration lawyer can give you more information regarding this matter.

Studying in Canada means you play chess or join in chess tournaments.

Before I decided to study in Canada as an international student, I used to play chess in my home country. I play chess and I participate in chess tournaments. When I first arrived in Canada, I missed playing my favorite game. However after I discovered places in Toronto where I could play chess, I began to appreciate my decision to study in Canada.

There are several places where you can play chess in Toronto, Canada. Here are the three best places in Toronto where you can play chess. At Nathan Phillips Square, there is an area where chess players and chess enthusiasts converge and play. The playing area is near the old City Hall and is a walk away from the Eaton Centre. Whenever the weather permits, chess is played in this area by players of different skill levels. On Fridays, you can play chess at the Hart House Chess Club at the University of Toronto. While on Mondays, the Annex Chess Club in Bathurst is another good place to play chess.
