Mocha, Bitty, and the Missing Meeting
Mocha was a tiny chihuahua, the color of a warm cup of coffee, with big, inquisitive eyes that held the whole world in them. She loved her morning walks with her human, Crissy. They were a time for sniffing all the good smells hidden in the grass, greeting other dogs with a polite little wiggle, and watching the sleepy world wake up. But Mocha had one little problem: she wasn't very good at being on time.

Every morning, the moment Crissy called, "Mocha, it's time for our walk!" the little chihuahua would find a new adventure. She might be busy chasing a dust bunny that danced in a sunbeam or carefully inspecting a particularly interesting wrinkle in the rug. Crissy would have to wait, and wait, the leash dangling in her hand, until Mocha was finally ready to go.
The Promise to Bitty
One beautiful morning, the air was crisp and smelled of dewy grass. Crissy had a special plan. "We're going to meet your friend, Bitty, today," she told Mocha with a warm smile. Bitty was a fluffy brown rabbit who lived in a nearby garden, and she was Mocha's very best friend. They had a special routine: they would meet by the large, mossy rock, and Crissy would always bring a crunchy piece of lettuce for Bitty to share with Mocha.
The "Beep, beep, beep!" of the alarm clock on the table signaled it was time to go. Crissy was ready, the leash in her hand. But Mocha was having too much fun. She had discovered a particularly interesting sock to wrestle with, tugging and shaking it with all her might. "Mocha, we need to go!" Crissy said gently, her voice full of a playful urgency. But Mocha was in the middle of a very important battle with the sock.
Crissy waited, and waited, and then sighed softly. Finally, with a few extra minutes lost, they were on their way. The walk felt a little rushed, and Mocha felt a slight pressure in her little chest. When they got to the garden, the usual meeting spot was empty. Mocha's ears drooped, and her tail, which had been wagging with excitement, slowed to a sad little flick. There was no Bitty, no twitching nose, no promise of a shared leafy snack.
Crissy looked at her watch and gently patted Mocha's head. "Oh, sweetie," she said. "She must have had to go. Bitty is a very busy rabbit, and she's always on time."
Mocha felt a deep pang of sadness. She had missed her friend, and it was her fault. They walked home, and the walk didn't feel as fun without Bitty's cheerful presence. That evening, as Crissy got ready for bed, Mocha thought about Bitty. She pictured her friend waiting patiently by the mossy rock and then having to hop away because no one showed up. She thought about how Bitty was always ready to meet her, and how she had made her wait.
A New Morning, a New Promise
The next morning, the "Beep, beep, beep!" of the alarm clock went off. This time, there was no wrestling with socks or chasing dust bunnies. Mocha was already by the door, her tail wagging so hard her whole body wiggled. Her little ears were perked, and she looked up at Crissy with a determined glint in her eyes. Crissy smiled and said, "You're all ready, Mocha! Let's go!"
When they arrived at the garden, Bitty was there, munching on a leaf and looking as cheerful as ever. Her little nose twitched happily when she saw them. "You're on time!" she squeaked, her eyes sparkling.
Mocha's tail wagged so hard her whole body wiggled. She had learned a very important lesson: being on time isn't just about getting somewhere; it's a way of showing the people you care about that they're important to you. And from that day on, Mocha was always ready for her morning walks, a punctual little chihuahua with a happy heart.
