Nuvali (Sta. Rosa, Laguna)

Nuvali in Sta. Rosa, Laguna is now a destination by itself. It is no longer just passing through to Tagaytay. When going to Tagaytay, I always pass by the huge Nuvali sign paying no attention to what the place can offer.

I have heard about Nuvali and its Kois. I have seen a lot of photos of those orange colored fishes being fed both to their delight and of the travelers. And those Kois alone is enough to entice travelers, including me, to go and see Nuvali.

The recent Barangay elections provided us with enough time to travel to Nuvali. The place is less than an hour drive via the South Luzon Express Way (SLEX) barring traffic. In the Philippines, election day is synonymous to a holiday.

It just took us a little of an hour to reach the Sta. Rosa Exit as we were spared by the notorious traffic. While the huge sign of Nuvali cannot be ignored.  We spent some time looking for the place where the fish feeding area can be found. After asking for directions, we finally reached the area.

We really enjoyed feeding the Kois or the Japanese “Carp” of brightly colored varieties.  These fishes seem to recognize who has the feeds as they gather around to compete with one another for food. The splash of the Kois scrambling for food gives much enjoyment.

It is said that Kois symbolize bravery and strength as these fishes are known to climb waterfalls and when caught, the fish lies steadily on the cutting board as if waiting for the knife to take its life. Kois also represent prosperity and good fortune.  Its constant and continuous movement in the water depicts energy. By just looking in the Koi Pond with those brightly colored fishes swimming around instantly relieves stress.

But it is not only these fishes that provide a relaxing ambiance and a reason to visit Nuvali, but it is also actually the whole Nuvali area.  Nuvali has a very wide landscape good for walking, jogging and biking. It has posh restaurants and offers a boat ride for the whole family. Here are the costs:

Fish feeds – P 15.00 per pack
Bike Rental – P 60.00 per hour
Boat Ride – P 30.00 per head (Minimum of 6 and maximum of 12 persons)
