More Bicycle Lanes Needed

The pandemic has resulted in most people taking cycling as an alternative to driving cars or commuting to reach their destination. The humble bicycle has been the savior for most employees in the Philippines who are either frontliners or workers who as a matter of survival should report for work. Employees resorted to using a bicycle to work when public transportation was shut down as a way of preventing the further spread of Covid-19.

Now that many are into cycling, either for work or leisure, their safety must be taken into serious consideration. Policymakers have to come up with ways to protect cyclists on the road. There should be more bicycle lanes for the exclusive use of cyclists. The pandemic has resulted in most people taking cycling as an alternative to driving cars or commuting to reach their destination. Now that many are into cycling, either for work or leisure, their safety must be taken into serious consideration. Bike lanes are very important to cyclists because it ensures a piece of the road is allotted to them. There are still a great number of motorists who forget that cyclists are also entitled to use the road. I have witnessed motorists not respecting the rights of cyclists by loudly blowing their horns trying to bully their way.  This kind of attitude towards cyclists should end. It is time that we encourage more people to use their bicycles. The advantages of using a bicycle for health and environmental reasons are more than enough for more cities to put up bicycle lanes.
