Commuting in Canada

When I in arrived in Canada on August 2022, one thing I have noticed is their very efficient transportation system. It is much easier to take a bus or subway. In the Philippines, commuting is very difficult. I cannot help comparing the transportation system here in Canada to my home country.

Here in Toronto, Canada there is very less traffic. More often than not, you are assured to reach your destination on time when you take public transportation. Google map is a very reliable and necessary app when commuting in Toronto. The app will guide you in your travel or to you chosen destination. A reliable internet is a must. A cellphone with a google map app is essential to efficiently travel in Canada.

You got to wait at the designated bus stop to get a ride.  The bus stop is made of glass-like material where you can be easily be seen from the inside. You often have to wait for a few minutes for the bus to arrive. During weekends however, I experienced the bus arriving for more than thirty (30) minutes.

Commuting in Canada is convenient and efficient. Inside the bus, there are designated seats for senior citizens and those that require assistance during the commute. You need a “Presto Card” to pay for the ride. The Presto Card can be loaded in several ways and at the bus stations or with the use of an app.  There is “free transfer” within two (2) hours  upon using the Presto Card. This means that you can ride the bus and subway trains for free within two (2) hours upon using your Presto Card.

I can only wish that commuting in the Philippines would somehow improve just like here in Canada. Serious implementation of traffic rules and regulations is essential towards an efficient transportation. Commuters must also respect the rights of others who ride buses, subways and other forms of public transportation.
